The thing has changed in the last ten years in
terms of electric cars and equipment for EV charging. A lot of time and money
can be saved if you try to customise the habits of charging your
electric-vehicles. New models coming on the roads in a short period of time,
and users have a lot of choices to choose between affordable electric cars
which can go more than 320 km’s in a single charge.
These cars need to be charged to, rerun them
again, but if you run them beyond their specified limits, it might take a
longer time. You might be thinking of installing a fast EV charger at home. It
might not be cheap as the price range varies from 100$ to over 1000$. It would
be beneficial if you choose them on the base of your requirement rather than
the things that are advertised. If you are likely to use the electric cars for
your daily routine, they don’t deplete more battery and can be charged
overnight by the use of simple 120v EV charger.
If you use
the proper routine of EV charging, then you can significantly save the money
and your time as well in the long run. You can avoid charging your vehicle for
long hours when your car runs out of battery.
Key
Point
There are couples of critical factors to be
considered
·
Overall car’s driving range
·
Your daily charging routine
·
Your personalised driving habits
·
A charging station’s availability
·
Your home resale value vs. installing
the high-end EV charger at your home.
We will also try to cover the suggestions at the
end of this article which greatly helps you to choose the charger based on
their level, charging time and driving needs. There are three different types
of chargers first two are meant for your home.
Level
1:
It is normal 120 v charger which can be attached
to any of primary household outlet without any extra cost added. But the bad
side is the charging could be slow and stressful/
Level
2:
This is plugged in 240 volts higher output power
source that can also be used for AC or oven. The charging time is significantly
increased as compared to Level-1 chargers. The level 2 charger can cost you
from a range between to 300$ up to 1200$ without installation depending upon
the make and the model of the charger.
Level-3:
They are high-end EV chargers which can add up to
a range of 144 km’s over the charge cycle of just 20 minutes only. These
chargers can be expensive and going to cost you up to thousands of dollars.
These level 3 chargers not only increase the installation, but it can severely
damage your car battery. So these chargers are not recommended for home
installations at all. Their operation is also prohibited for use by most
consumers.
