The protocols are assigned to handle the emergency according to its category that may be administering aspirin or cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Onstar is also offering their services to General motor with In-Vehicle Driver’s Assistance Program that provides the automatic crash response remote, door unlocks, stolen vehicle, hands-free calling, diagnostics, and navigation to its subscribers.

A total of 115,000 emergency calls were handled in the United States and Canada as told by the Onstar spokesperson. Just push a red emergency button inside your car in case of an emergency, and the emergency team will respond you.
Life Savers
In 2013, Onstar was the first private nonemergency service that was recognised by the International Academics of Emergency Response as a Medical Accredited Centre of Excellence. The Onstar medical staff is one of the best and highly trained with extensive experience in the field of medicine. They also provide on-call assistance before an ambulance could arrive which can become a difference between life and death.
In the cased reported, they received a call from the driver as his passengers had a sudden cardiac arrest and driver was instructed on how to do compressions by placing hands on the chest and he was encouraged continuously until the ambulance arrived and took over.
They have a protocol established by International Academics of Emergency Dispatch for a medical emergency. About 110 Onstar emergency advisers are serving across Canada and U.S. The advisors are also trained every week how to handle the crisis if they had to navigate itself from the protocol.
Role Playing
To check the readiness of medical advisor the fake emergency scenarios are being created to maintain a cross check about the advisors either they are ready to handle the emergency. All the Onstar advisors are assessed on an individual basis. There are 12-15 Onstar life critical emergency calls every week from 2 Onstar call centres present in the U.S and Canada. One is located in Charlotte, North Carolina and second is located in Oshawa, Ontario. Tips are also offered to advisors to increase their performance. This is what makes the Onstar Advisors handle the unexpected.
Another Win
During the summer of 2014, Onstar call received a crisis call the call in afternoon located in Oshawa. Someone was facing a breathing problem, and it became hard to assess the situation as the patient wouldn’t able to speak up. Now a medical advisor has to think out of the box to handle the case, and the patient was told to honk once to give it a yes and twice to give it a no. So the patient was asked as she can see the fire department truck, she honked once, and doors of the car were remotely unlocked so that the emergency team can have access to the patient.
As soon as we receive the call Onstar emergency response team move to a vehicle and try to pre-assess the situation to handle the scenario better.
